The Name
What does Horan mean?
In Afaan Oromo the language spoken by more than 40 million people across Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa the word "Horan" carries a rich meaning: productivity and prosperity through hard work.
The founders chose this name intentionally. Building world-class software from Addis Ababa is not accidental it is the result of deliberate effort, relentless learning, and a deep belief that excellence can emerge from anywhere on earth.
Every line of code the team ships, every client partnership, every milestone it is all rooted in that one word: Horan. Prosperity earned through work.

The Beginning
From a university lab to a national stage
In 2022, a group of engineers at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University entered the ASTU Innovation Center competition. Out of all the teams, they ranked second a result that proved the quality of their ideas and ignited their ambition to go further.
A year later, in 2023, the same core team competed in the Visit Oromia national hackathon and won first place with "HotSpot" a platform designed to connect tourists with Ethiopia's hidden cultural and natural treasures. That win was a signal: the talent was real, and the opportunity was immense.
Horan Technologies was formally incorporated in 2023 in Bole, Addis Ababa. By 2024 the company had signed contractual work with both local and international companies. By 2025 it was legally registered for global software outsourcing operations.
